Marble is porous and susceptible to staining from organic matter, leaves, and spills, requiring frequent sealing. In climates with freeze-thaw cycles, water absorption can lead to damage. Acidic rain or cleaning agents can also etch the surface. Polished marble is too slippery for outdoor use.
