How should existing brick fireplaces be prepared for natural stone veneer installation?
The brick surface texture and any existing coatings must be evaluated. If the surface is too smooth or painted, wire mesh and a scratch coat are required. If the surface is porous, unpainted, and mortar joints are in good condition, clean the surface thoroughly before buttering the stone and pressing it into place.
